After the presentation, I thought about the work of the "Bureau of Inverse Technology" and Natalie's way of presenting it, and I think I appreciate it _because_ of the inconsistencies (rather than _in spite_ of them). E.g., she went in and out of character as the bureaucracy's engineer--the irony came and went in waves--yet this encouraged the same behaviour from the audience. The result was a shifting ground where one was allowed to be critical, self critical, guilty, cynical, genuinely moved, dispassionate--much as we have become (I would argue) in our everyday lives. High realism.
